Course Description:
This course will introduce Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) applications in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It will include common indications for its use, describe its evolving role in diagnosis and medical decision-making, review professional society recommendations involving neonatal POCUS, and provide a brief synopsis of common considerations for a neonatal POCUS program. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event.)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Describe the role of POCUS in the NICU
Describe professional society recommendations for using POCUS
Evaluate the role for POCUS as an adjunct to other imaging modalities
Describe institutional considerations for POCUS implementation
About Our Speaker:
Thomas Nienaber, MBBS, FAAP, is a Board-Certified Neonatologist, with a concentration on improving healthcare delivery by providing clinicians with the right information at the right time. He strives to achieve this through his work in clinical informatics and enhancing information available at the bedside. Caring for newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia is his main clinical focus.
This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.

SDMS CME Tracker System.
Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule.
