Elastography of the Liver and Spleen: Can It Help Predict Portal Hypertension?

July 8 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm EDT

ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is honored to welcome back sonography guru M. Robert DeJong, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FAIUM, FSDMS, for a discussion on the use of elastography in the assessment of portal hypertension.

Course Description:

Ultrasonic Elastography is a non-invasive imaging test that measures organ stiffness. By identifying liver fibrosis and evaluating for spleen stiffness, this diagnostic technique may help in the detection of portal hypertension, often replacing a traditional biopsy. This presentation will discuss how liver elastography is used to identify and grade liver fibrosis and how elastography of the spleen may predict patients at risk for developing portal hypertension. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

  • List the differences between transient and shear wave elastography.
  • Discuss how liver fibrosis causes portal hypertension.
  • Discuss the proper techniques to perform both a liver and spleen elastography exam.

Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule.
