Congenital Heart Disease: Continuity of Care from Fetus to Adult

June 10 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm EDT

ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is excited to welcome back Dr. Joy Guthrie, PhD, ACS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT, FSDMS, FASE, Program Director of the Community Regional Medical Center Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs, for an enlightening discussion on monitoring Congenital Heart Disease throughout a patient’s life span.

Course Description:

Congenital Heart Disease is the most common birth defect, affecting approximately 1 in 100 babies. Caused by improper heart development in the first eight weeks of pregnancy, these defects can range from mild to life-threatening and are treated with surgeries or interventions which allow patients to survive into adulthood. Because patients need follow-up throughout their lives, it is imperative for the sonographer to understand the echocardiographic appearance of the pre- and post-operative anatomy from the fetus to the adult. This presentation will provide an extensive overview of Congenital Heart Disease, highlighting images from various life stages using actual cases.  (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of continuity of care from fetal, to pediatric, to adult congenital echocardiography.
  • Provide examples of CHD, comparing images from fetal, pediatric, and adult echocardiography.
  • Describe pre- and post-op anatomy.
  • Demonstrate CHD cases from fetal echo through adulthood.
