USC Imaging appreciates Seno Medical’s generous sponsorship of this event.
ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is pleased to welcome back Dr. A. Thomas Stavros, MD, FACR, FSRU, renowned expert in breast imaging, for another illuminating discussion on how to improve accuracy for the diagnosis of breast cancer.
Course Description:
Accurate assessment of “gray area” breast lesions often presents a diagnostic challenge, even for experienced breast imagers. In this educational session, A. Thomas Stavros, MD, will further explore how opto-acoustic imaging, combined with an AI-driven decision support tool, enhances diagnostic confidence in evaluating indeterminate breast masses. Through real-world case examples, Dr. Stavros will demonstrate how integrating light and sound, to provide functional tissue information, can help radiologists better up-classify or down-classify breast lesions, thus supporting more informed biopsy decisions and potentially reducing unnecessary interventions. (Approved for 1 SDMS CME credit, provided one is present for the entire event)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Understand how Opto-Acoustic (OA) imaging and an AI-driven tool enhance the evaluation of indeterminate (“gray area”) breast masses by providing functional tissue information.
Describe how OA and an AI decision support tool work together for true-negative BIRADS down-classification of benign lesions and true-positive BIRADS up-classification of malignant lesions.
State how this hybrid imaging approach improves diagnostic accuracy and boosts confidence in radiologists’ biopsy decision-making.
Review how OA plus AI reduce economic and emotional cost of false positives.
About Our Speaker:
Dr. A. Thomas Stavros, MD, is an internationally recognized leader in breast imaging whose work has shaped modern diagnostic practices around the world. With decades of experience, he has been a driving force in advancing ultrasound, multimodality imaging, and evidence-based BI-RADS interpretation. A prolific researcher and educator, he is best known for his landmark textbook Breast Ultrasound, widely regarded as one of the most authoritative resources in the field.
Dr. Stavros is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and a Fellow of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology. In addition, he is Professor Specialist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, contributing to academic advancement and clinical training.
Throughout his career, Dr. Stavros has served as a medical advisor to numerous panels and companies and is an active investor in innovative healthcare technologies. His ongoing work focuses on integrating emerging modalities—including advanced ultrasound, elastography, optoacoustic imaging, and artificial intelligence—to improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce unnecessary biopsies, and elevate patient care.
A sought-after global speaker, Dr. Stavros is known for his ability to translate complex imaging principles into practical clinical insights that empower radiologists to make more confident, high-quality diagnostic decisions.
This activity is an approved SDMS CME activity – approved for 1.0 SDMS CME credit.
Please note that partial credit will not be issued.
The CME participant roster will be reported by Ultrasound Solutions Corp. to the
SDMS CME Tracker System.
Important update from the SDMS:
SDMS no longer allows its CME providers to issue Partial Credit for attendance. If you join late or leave early, the SDMS will no longer permit us to award partial pro-rated credit.
Therefore, from now on, in order to receive CME credit, you must be in attendance for the ENTIRE event via your own unique Zoom link that Zoom emailed to you when you registered. Then, and only then, will USC be able to award you any credit. So, please be prompt and attentive to the time schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, this is a new SDMS policy we must abide by. Thank you for understanding.
