ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. enthusiastically welcomes back Jennifer Sipert, MS, CPHQ, RDMS, RVT, for a comprehensive discussion on what it takes to keep Sonographers and their patients safe.
Course Description:
Sonographers know what good ergonomics look like, so why does posture still degrade after just a few exams? In this session, we will explore how systems thinking and habit formation neuroscience explain the gap between knowing and doing. We will address how equipment and culture shape scanning behavior more than knowledge and willpower and how these ultimately impact patient safety. Attendees will be able to identify the environmental cues driving their own habits and redesign them to support high quality, safe patient care. (Approved for 1.5 SDMS CME credits, provided one is present for the entire event.)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Explain how equipment, workspace setup, and department culture shape Sonographers’ ergonomic behavior more than just individual knowledge or willpower.
Describe the cue-routine-reward habit loop and the neuroscience that controls what makes habitual behavior automatic.
Identify why established habits dominate under fatigue and time pressure, and how workarounds threaten both Sonographer health and patient safety.
Apply a “systems and habit formation” framework to name one environmental cue reinforcing a poor ergonomic pattern and one change that would redesign it for safer performance.
