ULTRASOUND SOLUTIONS CORP. is excited to welcome back sonography legend Marsha M. Neumyer, BS, RVT, FSDMS, FSVU, FAIUM, for a Vascular Sonography extravaganza!
Course Description:
Let’s go on a sonic journey along the body’s vascular highway where we can visit important landmarks along the way. Often the road will be smooth and straight; other times, it will be rough, curved and/or narrow. The speed may be within normal limits, but we might also encounter areas where movement is well above normal and very disordered. We may even be forced to stop from time to time, seek alternative routes, or even back up! Regardless of what we confront, we’ll have fun exploring each destination.
We can begin our journey with the carotid vascular highway and head north to the transcranial loop. For certain we will encounter interesting, and often puzzling, things to explore, including blockades and multiple detours. Next, we can head south down the main highway, the aorta, to visit the important abdominal landmarks along its course. This trip can sometimes be challenging, but having a reliable vascular roadmap will get us to our goal. One of the most interesting, and some say stressful, side trips will be along the renal arterial highway leading to the kidneys. I have made this trip quite a few times and have found some ways to make the journey not only easy, but fun! And finally, after some exploring, we’ll head home along the lower extremity and pelvic venous highways. That part of the journey is often full of surprises. Movement may be normal and then everything suddenly slows down, stops, or often backs up!
Every trip is an adventure. We look forward to sharing this one with you!!(Approved for 4 SDMS CME credits, provided one is present for the entire event)
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to:
Describe extracranial and intracranial vascular anatomy.
Define the instrumentation and acoustic windows used for transcranial ultrasound examinations.
List the most common reasons to use transcranial ultrasound as an adjunct to carotid duplex examinations.
Describe the transcranial ultrasound diagnostic criteria used to identify clinically significant extracranial and intracranial vascular disorders.
List the required instrumentation needed to perform high-quality abdominal duplex ultrasound examinations.
Describe the vascular anatomy of the abdominal organs and the anatomic landmarks used during ultrasound examinations.
Relate the most commonly used scan planes for sonographic evaluation of the gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, mesenteric, renal, and hepatoportal vascular systems.
Discuss the anatomy and most common pathologies affecting the renal vascular system.
List the pitfalls associated with renal ultrasound examinations.
Describe the technical approaches used to obtain a complete assessment of the renal vascular system.
Define the diagnostic criteria used to categorize renal artery stenosis/occlusion and renal vein thrombosis.
Describe the anatomy of the pelvic and lower extremity venous systems.
Define the pathophysiology of venous insufficiency.
Relate the technical protocols employed for venous insufficiency assessment of lower extremity and pelvic veins.
Define the diagnostic criteria used to categorize clinically significant valvular incompetence in lower extremity deep, superficial, and perforating veins.
